On April 20, Nam Can Tho University organized the contest “DNC Recycled Fashion 2022” to raise its students’ and the local community’s awareness of environmental protection

This year’s contest attracted 17 teams of students majoring in tourism, hotel and restaurant management at the Faculty of Tourism, Nam Can Tho University with 17 costumes designed from used materials such as papers, plastic bags, leaves, fabrics… Each outfit carried the name of a locality in the Mekong Delta, and it had modern characteristics and ensured the national soul.
The contest consisted of 2 parts: In the first part, contestants performed on stage with music. In the second part, the designer explained about the costumes he or she had designed, demonstrated the high applicability of costumes, and answered questions to convey the messages of environmental protection.
Even though it was the first time the event was held, most of the costumes received praise from the judges and the audience. Especially, the costumes are reminiscent of the homeland’s specialties such as lotus flowers of Dong Thap, Pia Cake of Soc Trang, seafood of Ca Mau,…
At the end of the contest, the first prize went to the design bearing the image of the hometown of Dong Thap with the “Ao Dai Sen” costume designed from used plastic bags.
