Overview
The main causes of poverty are the impacts of climate change and the growing inequality in society. To achieve
the goals of poverty eradication,
the United Nations recommends that countries implement faster and more effective action programs to create
strong socio-economic transformation.
In Vietnam, in 2024, according to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, the national
multidimensional poverty rate (including poor
and near-poor households) was 4.06% with a total of 1,258,997 households.
Among them, 599,608
households
(1.93%) were poor, and 659,389 households (2.13%) were near-poor.
The Mekong Delta region ranked fourth out of six regions nationwide, with a multidimensional poverty rate of
3.14% and a total of 153,450 poor and near-poor households.
Among these, poor households accounted for 1% (48,751 households), and near-poor households accounted for
2.14% (104,699 households).
In this context, with the desire to contribute to improving social mobility, NCTU, a university located in the
Mekong Delta, has always determined its responsibility to
contribute to poverty eradication in various forms for students in remote areas, ethnic minorities in the
Mekong Delta, and other regions nationwide.
