DNC – In 2024, responding to World Water Day with the message “At the frontline of climate action” – “Meteorology and hydrology pioneering climate change response,” students from Nam Can Tho University (DNC) launched a large-scale volunteer campaign throughout provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region. The program aims to raise community awareness about water conservation and promote reasonable and sustainable use of natural resources.

The campaign was implemented by DNC students in collaboration with local Youth Unions throughout the Mekong Delta region, featuring a series of meaningful activities: water conservation advocacy in schools and residential areas; launching communication campaigns through leaflets, posters, and social media; and organizing numerous extracurricular sessions to help youth, students, and residents raise awareness about water source protection.

Alongside advocacy efforts, DNC students also directly consulted families on efficient water usage methods and participated in projects to clean canals and waterways, and plant trees to protect water basins. The university also encourages and supports students in participating in water conservation programs by local governments and non- governmental organizations, as well as implementing scientific research projects on water resource management and utilization to serve community life.

At Nam Can Tho University, multiple synchronized water conservation measures have been implemented. The university monitors daily water consumption to propose waste reduction solutions and installs vivid visual signs encouraging students and faculty to conserve water in public areas. Notably, on December 12, 2023, the University issued Notice No. 236/TB-ĐHNCT regarding safe and economical use of electricity and water, requiring all staff, faculty, employees, and students to implement it seriously. This is clear evidence of the University’s commitment to aligning internal policies with sustainable development goals.
The efforts of DNC students in the water conservation campaign not only contribute to protecting the natural resources of the Mekong Delta region – an area severely affected by climate change and saltwater intrusion – but also carry profound educational significance, raising awareness among the younger generation and the community.

This activity simultaneously demonstrates the pioneering role of Nam Can Tho University in implementing Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation), while connecting with goals related to environment, climate, and community cooperation (SDG 11, SDG 13, SDG 17).

With the motto “Learning goes hand in hand with action – Knowledge linked with community responsibility,” Nam Can Tho University continues to expand the scope of volunteer activities, affirming its commitment to accompanying students in transforming knowledge into action and making practical contributions to the community and sustainable development.
