Nam Can Tho University – Spreading Green Solutions

With the goal of creating a friendly and sustainable learning environment while making practical contributions to the community, Nam Can Tho University (DNC) has been implementing a series of concrete solutions to reduce environmental pollution. These actions not only help students form green habits but also contribute to realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and enhancing DNC’s position in the Impact Rankings.

Waste Classification System – A Foundational Step

Right on campus, DNC applies a waste classification system at the source. The bins are scientifically designed to separate organic waste, recyclable waste, and non-biodegradable waste. Both students and lecturers receive training, turning waste sorting awareness into a daily habit and helping reduce the burden on urban environments.

The “Green Sunday” Movement – From Campus to Community

The “Green Sunday” movement has become a regular activity, attracting wide participation from students and lecturers. Notably, international students at DNC are also guided to join, creating a space for cultural exchange while spreading the spirit of green living together. From cleaning classrooms and campus areas to taking action on the streets and canals of Can Tho City, the movement not only fosters responsibility but also generates positive impacts for the local community.

Saying “No” to Plastic Cups – Building a New Culture

DNC strictly prohibits the use of plastic cups in classrooms. Instead, students are encouraged to use personal cups and reusable bottles. This is not only a binding regulation but is gradually becoming a new campus culture that reflects modern, civilized, and responsible lifestyles.

Creativity Through Recycling Competitions

To encourage creativity linked with environmental protection, the university organizes various recycling competitions for students. Products made from plastic waste, old paper, or agricultural by-products are transformed into useful items or works of art. Through this, students not only practice creative skills but also learn how to turn waste into resources.

Acting with the Community – Connecting Knowledge and Practice

DNC does not stand aside from urgent environmental issues in the Mekong Delta. Extending beyond the campus, DNC actively expands its positive impact on society by:

  • Implementing the “Three Clean” road model (clean waste – clean water – clean landscape) in residential areas, contributing to urban
  • Training local residents in household waste management: helping communities adopt safe methods of sorting, reusing, and treating waste to reduce
  • Building solar-powered streetlight routes: saving electricity, improving nighttime traffic safety, and affirming the commitment to renewable energy

DNC – A University for the Community and the Environment

All these activities are systematically designed and aligned with SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Through concrete actions, DNC affirms its development philosophy: education tied to social responsibility, and knowledge hand in hand with action.
