As part of its sustainable development strategy that places people at the center, Nam Can Tho University (NCTU) has always focused on building a humane, fair, and inclusive learning environment. On October 13, 2024, the seminar “Laws on Social Protection and Legal Assistance for People with Disabilities” was held, with Mr. Nguyen Tri Hai, M.A., Lecturer of the Faculty of Law, serving as the keynote speaker.
The seminar attracted significant attention from students, particularly those with disabilities. During the program, Mr. Nguyen Tri Hai and other speakers provided an in-depth analysis of current legal provisions concerning people with disabilities. Topics included their rights to education, healthcare, employment, social protection policies, and free legal assistance mechanisms aimed at safeguarding their legitimate interests.

In addition to the theoretical presentations, the seminar also created an open dialogue space between students and experts. Many practical issues were raised, such as how to improve access to higher education for people with disabilities, the support mechanisms available to them in job seeking, and the role of law students in protecting this vulnerable group. These candid and open discussions helped students better understand their responsibilities in learning, research, and promoting a spirit of sharing within the community.
In recent years, NCTU has retained some graduates with disabilities to work at the university after completing their studies. This not only recognizes their extraordinary efforts throughout their academic journey but also represents a practical action demonstrating the university’s strong commitment to promoting equal opportunities, social inclusion, and empowerment for people with disabilities.

The university continues to provide opportunities for students with disabilities to access an inclusive learning environment and participate in research activities aimed at reducing inequalities.
With its sustainable development orientation, NCTU not only focuses on training high-quality human resources but also on fostering character, social responsibility, and humanistic values among generations of students. This seminar serves as a clear reflection of that educational philosophy – a philosophy that extends beyond the classroom, reaching out to the community, and working towards a just, compassionate, and sustainable society.
