Journey of Cultivating Happiness from the Hearts of Students at Nam Can Tho University

DNC – With the aim of spreading compassion and encouraging students to express their creativity, Nam Can Tho University (NCTU) has launched the “Journey of Happiness” project, taking place from January 2024 to December 2024. This activity is organized by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship – Student Support and Business Cooperation, aimed at students enrolled in Soft Skills courses, with the participation of lecturers and teaching assistants.

Student clubs, teams, and groups presented their projects on “Journey of Happiness”. After more than 6 months of implementation, the project has attracted hundreds of creative ideas from thousands of students. The projects center on issues aligned with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, while also providing opportunities for students to apply the soft skills they have learned in class, such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, cooperation, and leadership, in practice.

Many community-oriented ideas have made strong impressions from the very beginning, reflecting not only the students’ sense of social responsibility but also highlighting the image of a compassionate and creative young generation. Notable projects include the following:

  • “Journey of warmth from the Heart”: Mobilizing donations and offering gifts to orphaned and disadvantaged children in foster centers.
  • “Zero-Cost Noodle Stall”: Offering free noodle stalls periodically, targeting children in highland regions, especially in the Central Highlands, carrying the message of sharing in hardship.
  • “Restoring Heroic Memories”: Digitizing and restoring photos of war martyrs to honor and preserve the memory of those who sacrificed for the nation.
  • “Green House”: Planting trees on campus, recycling plastic waste into study tools, and contributing to climate action goals.
  • “Books in Hand – Knowledge for Children”: Collecting books, comics, and school supplies for children in rural areas, spreading the value of knowledge.

Each project not only provides practical benefits to the community but also serves as a platform for students to enhance their creativity, assert their individuality, and disseminate positive energy.

Unlike many competitive-style activities, the “Journey of Happiness” project of NCTU emphasizes direct action and direct sharing of love. Each project goes beyond just being an idea; students join hands to turn them into reality, creating tangible value for the community.

Through activities such as offering gifts to orphans, organizing free noodle stalls for children in highland regions, restoring martyrs’ memories, building green spaces in schools, and donating books to underprivileged students, thousands of NCTU students have transformed seemingly small deeds into “seeds of happiness”, planting in people’s hearts a spirit of sharing and hope.

The project not only provides practical support to the community but also helps nurture love, social responsibility, and pride in every NCTU student. This heart-to-heart connection builds sustainable value, a true journey of happiness, allowing each student to both grow personally and contribute to making the world around them better.

“Journey of Happiness is not just an academic activity, but a humanitarian journey. We believe that every NCTU student is a seed of happiness, and when these seeds grow together, a forest of happiness will emerge, bringing value to the community.”

Mr. Pham Vi Khanh – Vice President of the University’s Student Union

With this spirit, “Journey of Happiness” promises to become a meaningful hallmark in NCTU students’ lives, affirming the university’s mission of cultivating not only knowledge but also social responsibility and humanistic values for the younger generation.
