NCTU/DNC – The 2024 Green Summer Campaign was a memorable experience for the volunteers of the Lai Vung Student Association and the Faculty of Foreign Languages Youth Union. It offered young people the opportunity to share meals, living spaces, and work with the local community, while gaining practical experience and contributing their youthful energy to the development of their homeland and the nation.
This journey reminded us that youth is not only a season of dreams but also a season of action – a time to demonstrate the spirit, determination, and responsibility to contribute to society and spread meaningful values deeply and sustainably within the community, despite challenges and difficulties.
During the four days of the campaign, the volunteers displayed discipline and fulfilled all assigned tasks. Notable activities included:
- Cleaning and maintaining living spaces at Dinh Hoa Secondary School.
- Established a Youth Nursery Garden at Dinh Hoa Commune People’s Committee with 800 green trees.
- Donating five gift sets (worth VND 2,500,000) to support and encourage elderly residents living alone.
- Implementing the “Flower Road Project” by planting 70 golden shower trees and 30 flamboyant trees along the route from Dinh Phu Hamlet to Dinh Thanh Hamlet, Dinh Hoa Commune, Lai Vung District, Dong Thap Province.
- Clearing overgrown bushes along District Road 30/4 and Rach Gia Duoi routes.
- Executing the “Clean River Initiative” by collecting garbage from rivers and raising community awareness by conducting community outreach to local residents about environmental protection in general and water environment protection in particular; In addition, promoting proper waste classification and disposal, discouraging littering in rivers, lakes, canals, and waterways.
- Assisting residents with social insurance registration at the hamlet office.
- Creating a Youth Playground by painting two badminton courts at the Commune People’s Committee.
- Supporting the installation of the “Vietnam Youth App” for local youth at the Commune Cultural House.
- Organizing English classes and recreational activities for Dinh Hoa Secondary School students.
- Presenting five school gift sets, including DNC backpacks and stationery, to disadvantaged students in the area.
- Holding a Closing Ceremony at Dinh Hoa Commune to present certificates of merit to outstanding volunteers for their excellent contributions throughout the campaign.
The Organizing Committee of the Green Summer Campaign 2024 would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the leaders and residents of Dinh Hoa Commune for their support and hospitality, ensuring the volunteer team could successfully complete their tasks. Special thanks go to the Student Association of Nam Can Tho University for their guidance and direction, as well as to all volunteers for their dedication, enthusiasm, and relentless efforts.
As the campaign concludes, it is believed that each volunteer has created unforgettable memories of learning, bonding, and leaving a lasting impression of youthful dedication, patriotism, and social responsibility in the hearts of the local people and among one another.
