DNC – On the morning of October 23, 2024, Dr. Khương Quang Đồng—who has over 40 years of experience in the automotive industry and research on clean vehicles and new energy in France and Japan—gave an inspiring talk on the topic “Clean Vehicle Technology and International Competition.”
Inevitable Trend: Clean Vehicle Technology
At the beginning of his talk, Dr. Khương Quang Đồng emphasized the crucial role of clean vehicle technology for the future, especially as environmental pollution and climate change become urgent challenges. He explained that countries around the world, particularly developed nations, are implementing numerous policies to promote the development of electric vehicles and vehicles powered by renewable energy, aiming to replace traditional fossil-fuel-powered transportation.
Clean vehicle technology not only helps reduce carbon emissions but also contributes to environmental protection, energy conservation, and enhanced traffic safety. Dr. Đồng pointed out that in this competitive race, businesses must continuously innovate to remain competitive in the international market. Advanced technologies such as autonomous vehicles, fast-charging systems, solar-powered batteries, and hybrid technology represent promising directions for the automotive industry in the future.
International Competition in the Clean Vehicle Industry
From the perspective of international competition, Dr. Đồng emphasized that countries and multinational corporations alike recognize the critical importance of mastering clean vehicle technology to capture the global market. He mentioned major players such as Tesla, Toyota, and Volkswagen, which are investing heavily in research and development of electric vehicles. Moreover, countries like China, South Korea, and Germany are launching numerous clean vehicle initiatives, fiercely competing for leadership in both market share and technology.
Although Vietnam represents a smaller market, it has also made notable strides in the clean vehicle sector. VinFast, a domestic brand, has been actively expanding into the international market with its electric vehicle lines, demonstrating the potential of Vietnam’s automotive industry on the global stage.
Challenges and Opportunities for Vietnam
Concluding his talk, Dr. Đồng discussed the challenges Vietnam faces in participating in the global clean vehicle technology arena. He pointed out that beyond technological development, building infrastructure such as charging stations, supportive policies, and a skilled workforce are also crucial factors.
However, he emphasized that this represents a significant opportunity for Vietnam if the country can leverage its advantages in a young workforce, creative potential, and ambition to reach the global stage. He encouraged students and young researchers to continuously learn and update their knowledge to contribute to the advancement of clean vehicle technology domestically, and to help position Vietnam as a formidable competitor in the international market.
