NCTU/DNC– In a solemn atmosphere leading up to the inauguration ceremony of the DNC Health Science Institute building, on December 28, 2024, Nam Can Tho University had the honor of welcoming distinguished leaders and guests to visit and experience the special cultural space at the Spiritual Park belonging to the DNC Health Science Institute. This event not only marks an important milestone for the university but also spreads the humanistic spirit, gratitude, and preservation of traditional Vietnamese medicine and pharmacy values.

During the reception, distinguished guests were guided through the Spiritual Park – a unique cultural highlight within the Nam Can Tho University campus. This place is not only a memorial space for medical and pharmaceutical ancestors but also a symbol of the intersection between tradition and modernity, between science and spirituality. The park is designed with stylized lotus flower imagery – symbolizing nobility and wisdom, along with a Medicine Buddha statue at the center, representing compassion and the mission of healing and saving lives that defines medical practitioners

The Traditional Medicine Park is not only a place of remembrance but also an educational space, inspiring the spirit of respecting teachers and medical ethics among students. Surrounding the Medicine Buddha statue are statues of renowned physicians who are considered ancestors of the medical and pharmaceutical profession, not only in Vietnam but worldwide. This is how the university demonstrates the connection between tradition and modernity, East and West, between spirituality and science, thereby educating students with a comprehensive and deeper perspective on the mission of medical practitioners.

His viewpoint “Southern medicine treats southern people” laid the foundation for using indigenous medicinal herbs in treatment. Tue Tinh is considered the Pharmaceutical Ancestor of Vietnam.

Hippocrates: An ancient Greek physician, known as the “Father of Western Medicine.” He left behind the famous oath – the “Hippocratic Oath” – which is still used in graduation ceremonies for medical students worldwide.

Alexandre Yersin: He discovered the plague bacterium (Yersinia pestis) and developed treatment serum. Additionally, he founded the Indochina Medical School (now Hanoi Medical University) in 1902, training the first generation of doctors for Vietnam and the Indochina region.

Each statue and each story in the park serves as a living lesson, reminding students of the noble responsibility and mission of those in the medical and pharmaceutical professions.
