I. INTRODUCTION
In today’s higher education context, ensuring equal access for all students, particularly those with disabilities, has become a crucial requirement tied to the social responsibility of universities. Nam Can Tho University, guided by a vision of sustainable and humane development, has proactively invested in infrastructure specifically designed for students with disabilities.
These facilities not only address daily mobility, learning, and living needs, but also convey a message of support – empathy – partnership. They form the foundation for DNC’s commitment that every student, regardless of physical condition, has the right to learn in an equitable and welcoming environment.
II. OVERALL LAYOUT OF THE ACCESSIBLE WALKWAY SYSTEM
The accessible walkway system at DNC is designed as an integrated network, following the principle of “continuous connection – convenient mobility – absolute safety.”
P (Parking): Dedicated parking spaces for people with disabilities, located close to lecture halls, institutes, and dormitories.
LD (Walkway): Walkway routes run parallel to main roads, are spacious, have stable surfaces, and are wheelchair-friendly.
WC (Toilet): Specially designed restrooms are strategically distributed, ensuring optimal access from lecture halls or dormitories.
Examples:
From the main gate to the library (Zone T), students can follow a smooth LD route, passing the P area and accessing the entrance directly.
From the dormitories to Zone P (DNC health sciences research and training institute), the LD route provides continuous connection, with nearby rest areas and WC facilities.
The system diagram has been created to provide visual orientation, helping students and visitors easily locate suitable routes across the campus.

III. ACCESSIBLE INFRASTRUCTURE – RAMP AT ZONE P
At DNC health sciences research and training institute (Zone P), the ramp system serves as a key feature of accessibility. The ramp is designed parallel to the stairs and connects directly to the elevator, ensuring:
Standard slope: no steeper than 1:12, suitable for wheelchair users. Non-slip surface: safe during rainy or wet conditions.
Parallel handrails: providing additional support for those using crutches or having balance difficulties.
This facility enables students with disabilities to move independently between floors, reducing reliance on others, in line with the principle of “independent learning – full inclusion.”

This provides two key benefits:
- Reduced navigational confusion: Students and visitors can easily locate accessible
